Ganesh Chaturthi 2020, Time, Date & Its Importance

Ganesh Chaturthi 2020 will be celebrated on Saturday, 22 August this year. Ganesha Chaturthi is the 10 day-long Hindu festival held on the birthday of the lord Ganesha. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the most significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, He is the son of Shiva and Parvati. It is celebrated all over India. The festival is held on Shukla Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada and ends on Anant Chaturdashi. It is celebrated widely in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka. On this occasion, women make special "modaks", which are loved by Lord Ganesha. Lalbaug is a place that every year celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi on a large scale.

This festival is celebrated by Hindus with great Pleasure. People bring idols of Lord Ganesh to their homes and doing worship(aarti) in the morning and evening and the whole day devotional song played on the loudspeaker. The duration of this festival varies from 1 day to 11 days, depending on the place and tradition. On the last day of the festival, the idols are taken out with great fun, people wear the same colour dress and musical procession and immersed traditionally in water.


Ganesha Puja Muhurat 2020 begins at 11:06 AM and continues till 01:42 PM. The Ganesha idol Visarjan will be done on Tuesday, September 1, 2020

During this festival, people pray Lord Ganesha with great devotion. In this occasion, people keep their clay idols privately in their homes, or publicly on big pandals. Offerings of Prasada after the prayer and distributing amongst the community people, prasad include sweets, modaka.

This festival starts on the fourth day of Hindu calendar month Bhadrapada, which normally falls in the month of August or September. The Ganesha Chaturthi ends on the tenth day. Modak, Til and Jaggery Laddu, Besan Laddu, and Motichoor Laddu are some of the popular dishes made during Ganesh Chaturthi puja celebration
