Happy Deepawali 2020 Date & Time, Wishes, Images & Significance

The festival of Deepawali is celebrated on the Amavasya (the moonless night) of the Krishna Paksha (the dark half of the lunar month) of Kartika (Hindi month) every year. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". It is said that Lord Rama, the king of Ayodhya on this day came back to the city on the expiry of his exile of fourteen years after defeating the demon-king Ravana. On this joyful occasion, the citizens of Ayodhya lit the lamps of ghee to welcome him. Since then this festival is celebrated on this day every year.

Many days before the festival, people clean and decorate their houses workplaces with diyas and rangoli. During Deepawali people wear their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with diyas and rangoli, offer puja to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth, light fireworks, and partake in family feasts,  On the auspicious day of Deepawali people send presents, sweets, fruit, etc. along with their good wishes to their friends and relations. Two days before Deepawali it is Dhanteres. On this day people purchase new utensils from the market and bring them home. The next day is the day of Chhoti Deepawali. This day is also called the day of Narak Chaturdashi. The next day of Chhoti Deepawali is the main day of Deepawali. On this day shops and markets are decorated like a newly married bride. In the evening having lit the lamps, Lord Ganesh (the elephant-headed god) and Laxmi (the goddess of wealth) are worshipped with rice, kheel-batasha, sweets, fruit, and flowers. On this day people lit their houses and shops with lamps, candle-sticks and electric bulbs. The next day of Deepawali Govardhan is worshipped and the other next day there is a festival of Bhayya Dooj.

Some defects have also entered this festival. Some people consider gambling on this particular day as a virtue. On this occasion display of fireworks sometimes does a great loss.

Deepawali is a festival of laugh and merry. We should celebrate it in the same manner. We should not do any bad deed on this day. Of course, it is a unique festival.
